One of the best things about summer is all of the great outdoor music festivals. The Sounds Like Summer Concert Series, presented by Volume 1 Magazine, is certainly no exception. My jazz group, The Walk/Klenz Jazz Sextet, has had a very busy summer schedule thus far, and we look forward to performing at this concert series on Thursday, July 2nd. As always, check out all of our shows by clicking on the Shows tab above.
Recently, I had the opportunity to record with the soulful South Farwell. Their new album “Tear Everything Down” is done, and I will be playing with the band for their CD release party in early July.
Tear Everything Down is awash in chops of B3 organ, in shimmering horn lines, and in plenty of rollicking piano, but the biggest asset to the band is still its pure and simple earnestness.
The funk band I play in, Duncan Ninja is packing a powerful one, two punch and is quickly gaining popularity. Duncan Ninja plays the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, James Brown, Tower of Power, Marvin Gaye, etc. Our shows are exploding with energy, so be prepared get down! Lastly, the Red Parrot Swing Band can be heard every Tuesday night from 7-9 at the Red Parrot Lounge – Formely Woo’s Pagoda. Come hear some classic big band music, and there are always swing dancers!
Every Tuesday night the Red Parrot Lounge presents SWING DANCING! Come out to show your moves or enjoy the dynamic sounds of the Red Parrot Big Band. This group is made up of the top musicians from the area and rivals the quality of groups from yesterday and today. Featured music includes the hits of Glen Miller, Harry James, Frank Sinatra, and so many more! If you’ve got an itch to dance, we’ll help you scratch it! – V1.
